Day 1 at Hamilton
It has been a day of mixed reactions for the Kiwis at the Hamilton. They entered into the game with the confidence which they carried from the victory against India in the final ODI. India won the toss and Dhoni elected to field as the track promised movement of seam at the early stages of the match. The Indian pace spearhead Zaheer Khan and his bowling partner Ishant Sharma made the ball swing at their will and kept sending the Black Caps to the dressing room. Within just 2 hours from the start of the match, the kiwis were reduced to 60/6 with zaheer claiming 2 wickets, Ishant 3 wickets and Munaf Patel 1 wicket. The Jesse Ryder and Daniel Vettori pair showed some promise and changed the course of the match and put on a splendid 186 runs partnership for the 7th wicket with both of them scoring centuries. Then Munaf patel gave a breakthrough as the New Zealand captain was out when he was on 118. Then the Indians wrapped up the kiwis for 279 which was unimaginable total when considering the situation the kiwis were in at lunch. The Indian were 29/0 from 7 overs at stumps with sehwag on 22(18) and Gambhir on 6(24).
